driving through the fairytale forest area that is part of the achterhoek coulisse landscape, it feels like you are driving in your own fairytale. you expect to encounter a gingerbread house at every path. it is a breathtakingly beautiful part of the netherlands just north of the cozy village of ruurlo, where you will find all the amenities you need: sports clubs, stores, schools and restaurants. don't forget the beautiful castle museum and the largest maze in europe.

your own 'fairytale house
no, it's not a gingerbread house we see when we get sight of barchemseweg number 100. it is a surprisingly detached farmhouse originally built in 1937, but completely remodeled in 1997, which has stood the test of time superbly. we park in one of the parking spaces in the spacious private driveway, get out and linger for a moment to take in the rich forest air. what a heavenly setting. you can hardly wait to put on the hiking boots and hit the trail.

we walk to the side entrance and enter the high hall with access to several rooms, such as the toilet, living room and kitchen. further on, there is also access to the bedroom and bathroom. life-proof living is the norm here. furthermore, a separate utility room and storage room for the white goods equipment. we go in everywhere for a moment.

the spacious bedroom and bathroom are at the front of the house. they are nice spacious rooms with plenty of light and views of the forest. the bathroom is accessible from both the hall and the bedroom and features a spacious walk-in shower, toilet, double sink and bathtub.

kitchen and living room
the spacious kitchen is equipped with all conveniences, such as induction hob, dishwasher, oven and refrigerator. from the kitchen you can also walk through to the spacious garden-oriented living and dining room. in winter it is lovely to walk around here with the underfloor heating. the wood-burning stove adds character and warmth. just crank up the wine and toasts; we'll get through the cold evenings here. during sunnier periods you open the beautiful double doors and walk straight into the deep garden and adjacent forest.

we first walk back inside and take the stairs to the second floor where we see three beautiful rooms. great rooms for sleeping or setting up an office or hobby room. the largest of the three rooms is at the back. you could easily install a bathroom here as well. behind the knee walls is plenty of storage space. the same goes for the storage attic that can be accessed via a loft ladder.

healthy, fresh air
we walk through the french doors onto the terrace and look out onto the deep lawn surrounded by stately pines. that smell, it's almost intoxicating. the garden contains lots of greenery and hedges that enclose the garden. you have plenty of sunshine and privacy here. in the adjacent private forest you can enjoy a refreshing walk and have a chance to encounter rabbits, squirrels and deer.

on the plot are several barns and there is also a wood shed. in the forest, it is zoning technically possible to put up a recreational home that you can then rent out to keep the mortgage payments low or use for guests.
